EGGER Group presents its sixth Group-wide Sustainability Report

The EGGER Group headquartered in St. Johann in Tirol publishes its sixth Group-wide Sustainability Report. The EGGER Group headquartered in St. Johann in Tirol publishes its sixth Group-wide Sustainability Report.

The family company pursues ambitious goals to "create more from the valuable resource wood" and thus enable sustainable living and working.

The EGGER Group is already presenting its sixth Sustainability Report for the financial year 2022/2023. It contains the strategy, objectives and performance of the Group with regard to economic, ecological and social sustainability. With this report, EGGER underlines its clear commitment to sustainable, generation-oriented management and to transparent communication throughout.

"Sustainable management is at the core of our strategic actions. We demand a high level of transparency from our reporting and are pleased to have been able to provide all of our stakeholders with comprehensive insights into our sustainability ambitions and performance since 2018," says Thomas Leissing, CFO and Speaker of the Group Management.

The EGGER Sustainability Report (non-financial statement) for the financial year 2022/2023 is available in German and English in digital format at www.egger.com/sustainabilityreport . The report has been prepared in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Austrian Sustainability and Diversity Improvement Act (NaDiVeG) and has been externally audited. A selection of the most important key figures is clearly presented in the sustainability fact sheet.

EGGER takes responsibility for its products, its own production, as well as for employees and society and acts with future generations in mind. Both with regard to its own sustainability performance and the quality of the associated reporting, the wood-based material manufacturer strives for continuous improvement. To this end, EGGER has its own performance evaluated annually by leading global rating agencies such as ISS ESG or EcoVadis and has repeatedly obtained awards: EGGER currently holds Prime status in the ISS ESG Corporate Rating as well as the EcoVadis silver medal. The insights gained flow directly into the further development of the company's own sustainability management. The wood-based material manufacturer is already working intensively on implementing the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in its own sustainability reporting.

EGGER focuses on the circular economy
Working in closed cycles forms the core of the EGGER business model, and is therefore an important lever for sustainable management. In this way, the wood-based material manufacturer conserves resources and makes optimal use of the potential of the valuable resource wood. EGGER is a secondary processor of sawmill residues and recycled wood. Already 65% of the wood used is made up of recycled material or by-products of industrial wood processing steps, such as wood chips or sawdust. At the end of their long service life, EGGER products themselves are recyclable to a great extent and can be reintroduced into the cycle.

Thanks to its carbon storage effect, wood is the central raw material in active climate protection. This advantage also comes into play in wood-based materials: More CO2 is bound in them than their production emits. During the 2022/2023 financial year, wood-based materials from EGGER have stored 6.4 million tonnes CO2. This carbon remains bound in the wood over its entire service life. EGGER therefore promotes the cascading, i.e. material, use of wood before thermal use. Wood residues that can no longer be used in production provide energy from renewable sources in the company's own biomass power plants. Already 70% of the energy used is obtained from renewable sources.

The family company: A responsible employer
For EGGER there is no doubt: The employees are the most valuable part of the family company. EGGER also sets itself the goal of being the best employer in the respective region. Employee satisfaction is therefore a particularly high priority. In its Sustainability Report, the wood-based material manufacturer comprehensively discloses how it lives up to its social responsibility.

Responsible production
As a manufacturing company, EGGER feels it has a responsibility to actively contribute to climate protection and aims to continuously reduce its own climate-impacting emissions. To this end, EGGER is currently working intensively on a climate strategy and the climate objectives derived from it. In this way, EGGER would like to once again underline its pioneering role as a responsible actor.
